Welcome back to school, Willow Families!
As Willow’s Reading Specialist, my job is to make sure all of our students grow as readers and that our teachers are supported in their literacy instruction. Thanks to PFA’s support, I work directly with small groups of students needing more explicit and systematic practice, and also collaborate with teachers to help them differentiate instruction for all of their learners. You may see me around campus doing demonstration lessons or co-teaching in classrooms, planning with teachers and instructional assistants, leading professional development sessions, reviewing data with teachers or parents, and even getting the staff to break out their dance moves.
This year, we will be using a new English-Language Arts program called Collaborative Literacy. What sets this program apart from any other, is that it supports students’ social-emotional development as part of the academic curriculum. I’m sure you’ll agree that this integration is invaluable for our children. I will be helping teachers as they begin to teach this new program, and will also continue to support their knowledge of best practices in reading instruction.
It is an honor and pleasure to partner with such a willing and seasoned staff. Equally important and valuable are the relationships I form with you. Of course, my first love is getting to work with our incredible students, and it is my goal to make them all feel successful and cared for. I feel extremely blessed to be a part of this amazing community as both a teacher and a parent.
My hours at Willow are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 8:15-12:15 and on Wednesdays from 8:15-3. I look forward to once again helping with the Readathon, the Book Fair, and hope to start some new literacy-related events this year!
Please don’t hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if I can be of any support to your family. I’ve listed below some of my favorite links that include reading tips for parents:
Looking forward to seeing all of you soon,
